Photography, at its core, is a visual language that communicates through light, composition, and color. Understanding color theory and its application in photography can elevate a photographer's work from good to extraordinary, making it crucial for photographers who wish to deepen their connection with their audience and enhance their creative expression.
Coming to you from Blake Rudis with f64 Academy, this insightful video delves into the world of color theory, emphasizing its significance in creating compelling photographs. Rudis passionately explores how color affects emotion, perception, and storytelling within an image. Highlighting common pitfalls photographers face, such as relying on new gear or presets to improve their work, the video argues for a foundational understanding of color, which often gets overlooked. This knowledge empowers photographers to manipulate color creatively, ensuring their images convey the intended message and evoke the desired emotional response. The distinction between mere color correction and the nuanced art of color separation and grading is explored, underscoring the importance of a systematic approach to color in photography.
The video stresses the camera's limitations in capturing color as the human eye perceives it, challenging photographers to take control of their color workflow. By demonstrating through examples, Rudis shows how adjusting color balance, saturation, and luminance can dramatically alter the mood and impact of an image. This meticulous attention to color not only bridges the gap between the photographer's vision and the final image but also enhances the viewer's engagement with the work. The tutorial provides practical tips for achieving precise color correction, separation, and grading, illustrating how these techniques can transform an image from mundane to mesmerizing. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Rudis.
Blake is a stand-up guy and is incredibly knowledgable. I would highly recommend his work.
Thank you! I appreciate you and your positive encouragement. Keep being awesome, it's a lot more productive than the alternative ;)
Another "educator" selling his "training".

You're welcome
That is a good video for sure :) But that is only part of it. There is so much more to the post-production of images in PS, and that's the other 6 hours that's missing from that video.
I get it, you don't know me so it's easy to pass judgement on who I am and what I do. Your comments are valid, but I do have a BFA, which many "educators" don't have even close to that level of formal training. I really do feel like I can help a lot of photographers with color theory. That's what I've been passionate about teaching for 14 years. Say what you will :)
