By now, you should already know the importance of backing up your data, and while storage (even cloud storage) isn't all that expensive these days it's still an expense. So here is my holiday gift to you: unlimited Google Drive storage for free. See for yourself if you qualify.
If you are in college, or have alumni status, you might have unlimited cloud storage via Google Drive. Back in 2014 Google announced that they would no longer be charging educational institutions a fee for using their line of Google Apps including Google Drive through Google for Education. Moreover, they removed the storage limits on Google Drive and added support for individual file sizes up to 5 TB. If you have a .edu email account and your school uses Google for Education, you could have access.
How It Works
Google for Education is a free service that school administrators can sign up for and offer their staff and students. It's no surprise that a lot of colleges and universities have taken advantage of it. In my experience, all I had to do was log into Google using my .edu email address. Since I haven't used my .edu email account in over a decade, I did have to contact my school to see if I still had access to my email account. I did, and they were kind enough to reset my password and update my info. Once that was done, I had access to my email account through Gmail, and all the cloud storage I can handle on Google Drive.

That's great news! I'm starting my junior year (at 36 years old) next month and will totally take advantage of this.
Oh my god. This is amazing!!!! Best Christmas present ever...and I never thought of this. Worked beautifully. Thank you!!!!
I have an .edu email can someone explain to me exactly how i use it to login to google and backup all the pictures and info from my phone and/or laptop. I would appreciate that very much,im not the most computer literate person out there.
Unlimited Drive storage is offered as a part of Google Apps for Education. This is not something an individual student can obtain; rather, school officials enters an agreement with Google on behalf of the school. After that, all students have access to unlimited Drive, etc. All that a student can do is to encourage their school officials to do this.
So, the answers to your questions are:
No, students do not get unlimited storage if acting as individuals.
No, this is a form for a school official who will administer Google Apps for their school.
Not applicable, since students do not sign up by themselves. There is probably some substantial time between filling out the form in 2 and domain creation (since someone from Google will need to contact the school officials and create a formal agreement). After the Apps domain is created, students get unlimited storage as soon as they create accounts on that domain.

I'm 99% sure this applies only to those whose school address is @Gmail rather than @edu. And thus they are already aware, having the suite of GApps plus plus plus upon login.
The only unaware reason I can think of is someone with little curiosity / uses MS apps instead,... uses iPhone / Windows/ dumb phone... doesn't use the edugmail account on their Android phone / school laptop/tablet.
Nope, I'm using my education email address provided by my college which ends with .edu and still works like a charm
Fair enough, although...
Not true, my email is a .edu but is managed through google apps (gmail and the like) but again, the school had to be already using google for education.
... my unstated main point was that the storage amount would already be assigned...
So you're saying one needs to request / sign up / or accept this perk?
If you have an email, whether it be a .gmail or .edu account that is admistered by an educational institution, by way of being employed, enrolled, or an alumni of an educational institution that utilizes Google for Education for the sake of their students, staff, or alumi, then you have access to google drive throught that account. And, through that account you have unlimited storage.
Please do not start backing up important stuff because the administrators can see your Google drive, if you need to back up data, encrypt your data before doing so!!!!!!!
Thank you!
I don't have a EDU email. So I used a service ( http://bit.ly/GdriveUnlimited ) to get unlimited google drive about 6 months ago. So far, there is no problem. I created a folder on that account and shared with my normal Google accounts. So there is no need to change accounts to access the files. 800+ Gb uploaded there.
Thanks for advice. It worked. Also, I didn't know unlimited google drive comes with unlimited google photos. So I can upload my photos in full resolutions without compression. 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻
I got mine a while back.Email me if you wanna know how to get yours. establishedwall@gmail.com

for unlimited google drive with EDU email, the school admin can delete your account anytime if you are not a currently enrolled student. For peace of mind get unlimited google drive from LayerOnline with non-edu email. I have one for two years and still working. https://client.layeronline.com/cart.php?gid=34
Something sounds fishy about this offer. I would love to have unlimited drive storage, but I care a lot about the security of my data. That's why I always do full google apps backup with the help of https://spinbackup.com/products/google-apps-backup/. I will try it out and give you my feedback about this offer, because if it's legit, then students from all around the world will be grateful.
